The Penn State Alumni Association

What’s been happening:

I opened my B&B in the fall of 1985, just before graduation in January of 1986. So I am the dowager innkeeper in Centre County. We had no name initially, then my children christened us Split Pine Farmhouse and I concurred. Ultimately, I renamed the B&B "The Chatelaine", for a chatelaine is the gatekeeper's wife at a castle, and I hold the keys here (our split-pine with its double canopy was dying, and this impacted the decision to change our name). I was instrumental in forming the PA Mid-State B&B Association and founded the Friends of the Purple Heart Highway (SR45), two important marketing groups in central PA. In 2003 I was honored by PA Travel and Lodging Assn. as PA Hospitality Innkeeper of the Year. Finally, I am opening a wedding venue in my carriage house with Weddings Al Fresco under tents on the grounds, with added shelter in the Carriage House. I could never have done this rather domestic work had I not earned my degree at PSU. I studied Spanish and Portuguese, loving every minute, and with a Phi Beta Kappa. Not bad for this 80 year old Keeper of the Keys.
